Exploring LA - in a Few Days
Arriving in Long Beach we soon met Matthias, who is ivisitng us for a few days. Together we explored Venice, Santa Barbara & parts of LA. We went to the Getty Center, had interesting chats with Uber drivers, tasted the local cuisine in Seal Beach and enjoyed ourselves before Matthias went to NIPS. NIPS is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) conference held in LA / Long Beach, where his PhD candidate Shiavash presented a paper to a huge audience.
While they were at the conference, we did what we always do: laundry, shopping, little improvements. Then we hopped to LA to see Hollywood etc - see the LA & Long Beach photos.
LA is huge and we focused on very few things. However, especially the Getty Center was impressive in any way. We found that it probably takes weeks to explore LA in detail. So we checked out LA downtown, Hollywood, Santa Barbara, Venice, Long Beach & Seal Beach. Seal Beach? That's the town (aka part of LA) on the other side of Alamitos Bay. Now we are at anchor at Two Harbors on Catalina Island. A short walk on the top hills and crests revealed views back to LA and into the Pacific. The sea is clear and diving the next we will check out. The dolphins can not be left alone :-)
