Jumping Whales, Howling Wolfes & High Speed

Jumping Whales, Howling Wolfes & High Speed

West Coast Vancouver Island turned out to be different. First we had to go around capes. They call this are (just another) "graveyard of the pacific". Then we did not always have fully protected anchorages. Which led to some rolling all night - we did ok, however. Then we had a longer walk at Cape Scott. Finding walks is not that easy along the coast, as the forest is dense and wild. A long night run brought us quickly south - our first night in the "open pacific waters". And somewhere on the way the "big splash" attracted our attention: whales jumping and beating the water. Impressive! In the Strait of Juan de Fuca we were so busy whale spotting that we nearly run over a whale surfacing just in front of Jade Akka. The wolfes we saw earlier, but in the Bunsby's we heared them only: mobile communication works for them, too :-) So, after many days along the coast in the water and along dense forest shorelines with spectacular scenery we finally turned toward Victoria - with 10 knots in the final few miles.
