Small Steps Towards The South

Small Steps Towards The South

We finally left Puget Sound and are waiting in Neah Bay to catch favorable winds for our next leg: down south into the Columbia River. A critical crossing into the freshawater is awaiting us there. We are well prepared. While in Puget Sound we refurbished a pump for our engine (well, we had to ...), optimized our downwind sail setup (now easy to handle and safe to use also in strong winds) and enjoed more days of sunshine.

Ah, there is the Edmonds marina docking to be noted: first, it was windy. Second, we went to the pump out (black water) plus docked in a berth. Third another boat occupied our slip and the people turned out to be super friendly so we invited them to a boat tour and we all went for Italian food together afterwards. A real treat after the challenging marina maneuver! Highly recommendale place, super nice evening!

Bars seem to be fashionable around here. We crossed the third one already by now. After other nights of downwind sailing we reached Newport & Coos Bay. Lovely hiking area, not to be missed: Cape Arago and adjacent state parks.

Here the updated pics from Strait of Juan the Fuca towards Newport.
