Towards LA

Towards LA

As we meet family in Los Angeles beginning December, we headed out San Francisco Bay Nov. 22. We had loaded solar panels in Richmond before and had said good-bye to Eric, Beth, Ed & Sallie and proceeded to Sausalito to rest before leaving. However, our mainsail did not want us to go far: old webbing that deteriorated by UV broke loose and we had to return soon after Golden Gate.

Good luck we could shop anything we needed the same day at the South Beach Riggers & Hood Sailmakers. Not much we needed, as we carry a lot of materials for such cases. So Isa and I sat down in the afternoon to repair. And we already did 50% by the evening (plus some other small things). Intense day, but we are very much looking forward to sailing longer legs again. Btw: For those interesed in modern sailboats, check out the Volvo Ocean Race videos on YouTube.

Next day we finished and left. We planned to sail over night in 10-15 knots. It turned out our repairs survived 30 knots :-) We are positive that we can count on the new webbing for a few years. Midday we got into Monterey, where we relaxed and will go to the Aquarium.
