Work, Family and Easter Holidays

As Jade Akka is over 15 years old by now, the steel requires partial rebuild of the paint work. To protect the steel from rusting, Jade Akka has a multitude of paint layers outside as well as inside. The basic build up is a corrosion protecting primer, a water tight barrier, primer for the top coat and the top coat itself. In some areas the looks are enhanced by shaping the surface with a filler. Most people do not recognize that it's a steel boat at first sight - this is a compliment but also requires a little more effort when redoing the conservation, i.e. the paintwork. Besides the paintwork we serviced the engine, replaced the exhaust gasket, improved details in the interior and in the sanitary installations. Also small repairs were needed on the traveller and bimini. So we had all our skills needed, from grinding to painting and sewing. Not any task electrical, though :-) By now we know our vessel pretty well, compared to our first works in April 2017! Find the maintenance video on YouTube and the workshop pictures here.

Immediately after the last paint was dry, Matthias, Susanna and Georgia (MSG) arrived. We had a few hours before to go shopping and getting the berths ready. And it all worked well! The two parents stayed in the double aft cabin while their daughter had her own bad & berth just besides them. The previous owner had installed a sliding door between these two cabins which paid out for this little family. Jade Akka is really great with guests! La Paz and the close attractions, landscape wise, also were at their best. The beaches and the bright sun paid back for all our days of work - for Susanna and Matthias it was exactly the same: a short easter break from their challenging - academic - jobs. We swam and dived, dinghied to the beaches, built sand castles (sand channels, to be precise), watched the sea creatures bis and small, hiked little hills, relaxed and enjoeyd good food with great sights. Here the easter excursion pictures.

Now, after MSG travelled back to the US, we start the preparations for the crossing. The folding kayak is stored away in "Georgia's" cabin that has become the "Adventure" cabin again. Food is plentiful on board already and we should soon be hauled out to get new bottom paint. We also need to conclude the engine service with injector-, fuel lift pump and starter-service. All these services are preferrably done when the vessel is in safe haven - the engine would not help to move in that moment.
